Free Download: Issue Four of The Letters Page edited by Jon McGregor

This is Issue Four, right here

Dear paul,

I know. Such a long time without hearing from us, and then you get two emails in the same week. What joy!

Here it is then, Issue 4: The Summerhouse Issue. As you read this, we're standing in the Senate Chamber of the University of Nottingham, the golden Autumn sunlight pouring across the lake outside and an air of gentle expectancy filtering through the room. The send button has just been pressed, the issue is ready for you to download, and we're fending off the rueful sense of anti-climax now lapping at our toes.

We're pretty excited about this one. It includes our first illustrated letter, and the first letter written on an oak leaf, as well as two letters from St Ives. Two! And those of you who didn't enjoy the jumbo A3 format of Issue 3 will be pleased to know that we've returned to the A4 format, complete with fold-your-own-envelope front cover.

Here it is:

Let us know what you think. And if you know a fellow reader and lover of letters who doesn't yet subscribe to this mailing list, why not forward them this email, using the link below, so that they can share in the pleasure of letters?

Finally: here's the next call for submissions again. Feel free to pass it on, or to object vociferously.

Issue 5: The Protest Issue
Letters of complaint, letters of objection, letters of furious indignation; eyewitness reports from street protests around the world; recollections of recent and not-so-recent protests and sit-ins and camps and campaigns; reflections on the meaning or purpose of protests, and on the use of the letter as a political tool; letters to and from and between protesters and protest sites. These are the letters we're looking forward to reading in our next issue. We're looking for letters with a sense of urgency. We're looking for some news from now.

500 words, approximately. Handwritten, and sent in the post to the address below. £100 payment for each letter published. Submission deadline is 29th October 2014.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours,

Jon McGregor, The Editor.
