Emerging Translator Mentorship Programme 2015

1 January – 30 June 2015

We are delighted to announced the fifth BCLT Emerging Translator Mentoring Programme,
The programme is intended for Anglophone translators with promise rather than experience, who are at a stage in their careers when they would benefit from the opportunity to work closely with an experienced mentor over a six month period.

Forthcoming mentorships

Portuguese
Mentor: Margaret Jull Costa
Applications for Portuguese, for a translator working on Brazilian literature, will open on Monday 10th November 2014 and the mentorship will run from February to July.
We will be announcing further mentorships shortly so please keep an eye on the website if your language is not yet included.

How to apply

All enquiries and applications should be made by email to Sarah Bower, Scheme Manager atbclt.mentoring@uea.ac.uk
We expect most applications to come from translators living and working in the UK, but will consider all applications on their merits.
If you wish to apply, please submit the following:
  • A brief, up to date CV
  • A statement as to why you believe you would benefit from a mentorship and how you would use it
  • A short sample of your translation work (not more than 2000 words) with accompanying notes. Please also identify your original text clearly.
Please note, a mentorship will involve a significant time commitment over the six month period so you should give careful consideration to your ability to give this commitment before applying.
The deadline for applications (except Portuguese)  is Monday 10th November 2014
Successful applicants will be informed by Monday 8th December 2014.
The deadline for the Portuguese mentorship is Monday 1st December 2014

Harvill Secker Young Translators’ Prize 2014

A mentorship in German was awarded to Eleanor Collins as part of her prize for winning the Harvill Secker Young Translators’ Prize 2014.  The mentor will be Shaun Whiteside
The prize was announced at a special event at the Cheltenham Literature Festival on Saturday 4 October.
