Author Alexander McCall Smith is the chairman of judges in the 2015 Scottish Arts Club Short Story Competition. The competition is open to all published and unpublished writers over 16 years. Stories should be no more than 1,500 words and can be on any topic. The entry fee is £10. All funds raised through the competition will be channelled through the Scottish Arts Club Charitable Trust to benefit the arts in Scotland.
Finalists’ stories will be published on the club website in August 2015. All finalists will then be invited to attend the Short Story Awards dinner to be held at the club on Saturday 12 September 2015, when the first prize of £800 will be announced and presented to the winner. The Scottish Arts Club, located in classic Rutland Square, Edinburgh, has been in operation for more than 140 years. It provides members with a lively programme of talks, films, recitals and exhibitions. It includes a beautiful art studio used for portrait, life—drawing and other arts, a great restaurant and a club room with a fine grand piano. The Club also includes an active Writer’s Group which organizes workshops for writers as well as the short story competition. The Club welcomes new members.
