With winter on its way and the nights drawing in, even the most dedicated of writers needs a little extra encouragement at this time of year. Our Winter Warmer Writing Competitionis here to help keep your writing muscles active leading up to the holiday period.

Winter Warmer Writing Competition Theme –Skimming Stones

There’s a fantastic treat in store for the lucky winner in 2015 as we’re offering to fund the winner’s participation in a writers’ workshop at the Writers’ Week Festival in Listowel.

Entry is free and easy. Simply use the form below to upload your work or email us directly at info@selfpublishing.ie with the words Winter Warmer in the subject line.

We’re looking for short pieces (750 to 1250 words) that take the phrase Skimming Stones as an inspiration. You can use it as a title or a general writing prompt, feel free to take it literally, metaphorically, as a jumping off point or an ending. It’s up to you where you go with it. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Winter Warmer Writing Competition Entry Details

Entries to the writing competition must be between 750 and 1250 words long. Entries can be submitted using the form on this page or simply emailed directly toinfo@selfpublishing.ie with the words Winter Warmer in the subject line.

The closing date for entries is the 31st of December, 2014. We’ll announce the winners early in the New Year. The winning entries will also be published here on the website.

Winter Warmer Writing Competition Prize Details

First prize – A Place in Listowel Writers’ Week 2015 Workshop

Along with a host of readings and other great events, Listowel Writers’ Week is justly famous for the quality of the writers’ workshops they run during the festival. The winner of our Winter Warmer competition will receive a free place on their choice of one of the following workshops:

• Creative Writing Getting Started Workshop
• Creative Writing Advanced Workshop
• Short Fiction Workshop

They’ll also receive two copies of our Writer’s Notebook, an elegant writing journal designed specifically with authors in mind.

Second prize

The second placed story will receive a €50 Amazon Voucher along with one copy of our Writer’s Notebook.

Third prize

The third placed story will receive a €25 Amazon Voucher along with one copy of our Writer’s Notebook

By entering our competition you agree to the following Terms and Conditions:

• In submitting your work to the competition, you explicitly retain all future publication rights.
• Multiple entries are permitted. All entries must be the author’s own, original work.
• Entries must be submitted either directly online to Selfpublishing.ie or via email to info@selfpublishing.ie. No hard copies will be considered.
• Email entrants will be added to our mailing list. If you do not wish to be added please state this in your submission.
• The staff of Selfpublishing.ie are excluded from entering the competition.
• The decision of the judges is final.
• The first prize of a place in a workshop at Listowel Writers’ Week will cover the cost of the course itself only. Travel, accommodation and other expenses will not be covered.
