The Meadow Novella Prize
The staff of The Meadow, the national literary journal sponsored by Truckee Meadows Community College, is pleased to announce we will begin welcoming submissions to our first annual novella contest. The winner of the contest will receive $500 and publication in our annual print edition of the journal.
We are also excited to announce that Brandon Hobson will judge this year’s contest. He is the author of The Levitationist (Ravenna Press) and Deep Ellum (Calamari Press), which Reader’s Digest recently listed as one of "The Best Short Books You’ll Ever Read". His novel, Desolation of Avenues Untold is forthcoming from Civil Coping Mechanisms. His writing has appeared in a number of publications, including The Paris Review Daily, Conjunctions, NOON, The Believer, and elsewhere. Hobson teaches at Northern Oklahoma College and is a member of the Cherokee Nation tribe.
CONTEST GUIDELINES
- Dates: We will begin accepting submissions on October 15, 2014, and will close to submissions on February 1, 2015.
- Length: Manuscripts should be between 18,000 and 35,000 words.
- Eligibility: Only previously unpublished manuscripts are eligible.
- Entry Fee: The entry fee is $15.00, payable through Submittable.
- Format: All manuscripts should have numbered pages and be in 12 point, Times New Roman, Garamond, or Palatino font.
- Submissions: All submissions should be made through theSubmittable submissions manager system.
- All submissions will be read blind. Your name should not appear on the manuscript.
- The winning manuscript will appear in the 2015 print edition of The Meadow as well as our eBook edition published online. The editors may also publish a second manuscript submitted to the contest.
