We're keen to see what you've got to say, and we're not choosy about the format - Prose, poetry, dramatic text, If you've written it then we'll read it.
The few conditions we have are as follows:
- The work can't have been previously published elsewhere.
- Keep it reasonably short. No matter how good it may be, we can't publish your novel here, for two reasons: one, it'll use up too many pages, and we are reliably informed that the internet only has so many pages; and two, we just won't read a three hundred page submission. Bears have short attention spans.
- From time to time, and hopefully very rarely, we may suggests edits that we feel could improve the piece. We won't ever touch the work ourselves, and the suggestions will be minor, and any debate will be fairly considered. Change our minds.
- We prefer fiction, but if you've got a tasty piece of fact-based lit on your hands, feel free to send it our way. The only thing we won't consider in this area is contemporary criticism. Bears live in the woods, and they don't vote.
- Format: If possible, please send in Word and please double space. If your work relies on using some other software, please send us clear instructions on how to use it and where or how we can obtain it. It should be noted, however, if said software isn't free, or very, very cheap, we will probably avoid it. Please also detail your wordcount in your covering page.
- The covering page: Tell us a little bit about yourself. As much or little as you like. You should really include some contact details there and tell us where you live (roughly).
- Payment: We do not pay for stories for the website. Bears don't use money. However, we will guarantee you greater exposure and we will also work very hard to have your work noticed by people with deeper pockets. This, of course, means you retain all copyright and can take your work away at any time. Submissions to our print publications, of course, will be a different story.
- If the laws laid above sound reasonable, and you have something that you wanna show to the world, then send it our way.
When the time comes, we'll be in touch, and hopefully
we can do some further business.
- All submissions thrust in the direction of submissions@thebear-review.com. Mark that thang "Okay to print".
Your pals @ The Bear
