Submissions
Writers:
Please submit work appropriate to the theme in .doc, .docx or .rtf format, 1.5 or double spaced, with word count indicated at the end of the piece. Literary fiction, creative non-fiction and narrative journalism should fall between 2,000 and 7,500 words. Any non-fiction or journalistic work selected for publication will be fact-checked. Please submit only one story or up to three poems per issue. Simultaneous submissions are welcome but let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere. All work must be previously unpublished either in print or online.
Submissions for Issue #2 should relate to the theme Union. The theme can be interpreted literally or metaphorically and might concern relationships, sex, marriage, romance, connection, bonding, forging disparate elements into a whole, bringing together different political/religious/social groups, and anything else that relates to the theme.
Shooter is open to all genres, but writing should be of a literary standard, with an engaging story and distinctive style. Poetry that inclines to the observational, rather than experimental, end of the spectrum is preferred. Please include a brief 2-3 sentence biography in the cover letter, noting any prior publishing experience, and email submissions to submissions.shooterlitmag@gmail.com by April 1, 2015.
Artists:
Original illustration in any form is welcome. Artists might like to consider the fixed elements of Shooter’s cover layout and how their work might best fit with them. Please send a jpeg of the work (relevant to the issue’s theme) at 300dpi or better toartwork.shooterlitmag@gmail.com by April 1st. Artwork will be used as cover illustration for the magazine, plus detail use on the inside pages and on related social media.
Rights:
Shooter acquires first rights for print and online/e-book publication and reserves the right to publish work that has appeared in the magazine on its website and related social media.
Payment:
Upon publication, writers will be paid £25 per story and £5 per poem. Artists will be paid £25 for use of the work as magazine illustration. UK contributors whose work appears in the magazine will receive a free copy of the issue in which their work appears; non-UK contributors may choose to receive either cash payment or an annual subscription.
