SLS Montreal Flash Fiction Prize. Deadline: April 24.

Summer Literary Seminars andCosmonauts Avenue are teaming up to present the inaugural SLS Montreal Flash Fiction Prize! In celebration of our fourth (!) SLS Montreal mini-program, we’re going small in our contest! Flash fiction! A five-week contest!

But the Prize recipient will be rewarded in grand fashion: FREE tuition to any SLS Montreal mini-program, $100, and publication inCosmonauts AvenuePLUS: A Cosmonauts Avenue tote bag with our logo on one side, the winning entry on the other, and filled to the brim with books by SLS faculty and alumni, such as: Josip Novakovich, David McGimpsey, Alison Pick, Heather O’Neill, Mike Spry, Jeff Parker, Eileen Myles, and many many more!

Our judge will be noted minimalist fictionalist and Giller-nominated novelist, Arjun Basu!

GUIDELINES
The complete guidelines for the 2015 SLS Montreal Flash Fiction Prize are as follows:

·      Deadline: April 24, 2015

·      Eligibility: Only previously unpublished work in English can be submitted.

·      We accept entries from all ages and countries.

·      All entries should be in a standard typeface and 12pt font.

·      ONE short story maximum 500 words.

·      Winner will be notified by May 1st, 2015.

·      If the winner has already registered for SLS Montreal, their tuition will be refunded.

·      Entries can be made via Submittable here.

·      A $10USD reading fee must accompany each entry. Multiple entries are permissible, as long as separate reading fees accompany them.

About the Judge: Arjun Basu is a writer and editor. In 2008 he published a collection of short stories, Squishy, and he published his first novel, Waiting for the Man, last spring. WFTM was subsequently nominated for the Giller Prize. He also writes ridiculously stupid short stories on Twitter that he calls Twisters. He's even won awards for them. He has no idea why. He lives in Montreal. Follow him on Twitter for an idea of his flashiest of flash fiction.
