Administration of competition including prizes

We will automatically acknowledge receipt of all entries.
Entries will be considered and winners will be notified by early October 2015 by email or phone and given details of how to claim the prize.
If a winner has not responded to us within four days, or if the winner rejects the prize, we reserve the right to select a new winner, in which case the original winner forfeits the prize.
The winners will be announced at a prize-giving event in Brighton on November 2nd 2015.
Entrants who have not won one of the three prizes will be notified by email during October 2015.
A short-list of story titles will be published on our website in October 2015.
The titles of the three winners will be published on our website after November 2nd 2015
Entries will be judged solely on the merits of the stories entered.
Members of Rattle Tales, or members of an experienced reader panel appointed by Rattle Tales Ltd, will read all entries. A short-list will be compiled by members of Rattle Tales from which the guest judge will select the winners.
Cash prizes will be paid by bank transfer, to a UK bank account held by the winner and notified to us.
The first prize is a cash sum of £500. Two runners up prizes are £100 each.
The winners of the first and two runners up prizes will be invited to perform the winning stories at the awards show on November 2nd 2015. If a winner does not wish to read, or is not available, Rattle Tales may nominate another person to perform the winning story.
The three prize winners together with up to seven other shortlisted entrants will also:
be invited to include their stories in a Rattle Tales anthology to be published during 2016, either in print or online (subject to the entrants’ agreement to Rattle Tales Ltd licensing terms and conditions);
and be invited to join the audience of the November 2nd awards show (additional guest tickets, travel expenses and accommodation will not be provided).
Invitations to the anthology and awards show (as performer or audience member) cannot be exchanged, transferred or redeemed for cash or other prizes. If the anthology, or show, is not possible for any reason, we reserve the right to withdraw invitations or offer suitable alternatives.
Prizes are not dependent on inclusion of stories in a Rattle Tales Ltd anthology or on a winning entrant’s personal attendance at the awards show or any Rattle Tales show.

Copyright

Entrants retain worldwide copyright of the stories submitted, but the winners of the first (£500) prize and the two runner up (£100) prizes grant a royalty-free non-exclusive perpetual license to Rattle Tales Ltd and The Brighton Prize to perform the stories at the awards show in November 2015, to publish podcasts of the performances online, and to make commercial use of the stories via promotion of Rattle Tales Ltd and The Brighton Prize.
Winning and short-listed authors who wish to be included in the Rattle Tales anthology (2016) may not publish their stories elsewhere prior to the publication of the Rattle Tales anthology (2016).
Rattle Tales reserves the right to use any image taken at the November 2nd 2015 awards ceremony to reasonably promote the Brighton Prize in this year and any other.
