Flash Fiction Competition

 

The Competition
Crossing The Teas, in partnership with the Heritage Lottery Fund and Brighton & Hove City Libraries, are looking for the best story about tea that can be written in 750 words! We don’t mind if it’s true, imagined, weird, scary, fantastical or romantic, just as long as the central theme is tea and it is no longer than 750 words.

Competition Dates
  • The competition opens on Monday 20th April 2015.
  • The competition closes at 8.30am on Monday 1st June 2015 (late entries will not be read).
  • Winners will be notified by phone/email on Friday 12th June 2015.

 

Who Can Enter?

  • The competition is open to all ages. There are two categories – under 18, and 18 and over. Please make sure that your entry is marked with the correct category.

  • Only one entry per person.
  • The competition is free to enter.
  • Stories should be in English and should not have been published or accepted for publication elsewhere.

  • Stories that have won or are under consideration in other short story competitions are not eligible.

  • The story must be all the author’s own work. Plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification.

What happens if you win?

  • Prizes will be awarded to one winner and one runner up in each category.
  • The prize includes the winner and runner up stories becoming part of the Crossing The Teas Exhibition at Brighton Library 22nd June – 16th July 2015 and having the stories available on the Crossing The Teas webpage.
  • Please note that prizes may be Brighton based. These prizes cannot be substituted and there is no monetary equivalent for any prize.
  • If you win or are runner up, you will be invited to the Crossing The Teas Big Tea Party and Exhibition Launch on Sunday 21st June 2015 where you will be with a further small prize (winning is not contingent on being available).

  • Unsuccessful entrants will not be notified.
  • Stories will not be returned to entrants (so please keep your own copy).

  • Bethan Roberts – Award winning local author
  • Amy Zamerripa Solis - Writer, journalist, literature promoter and founder of Writing Our Legacy
  • Umit Ozturk - Writer, journalist and broadcaster
  • Kate Regester - Libraries Community Engagement Manager, Brighton and Hove City Libraries
  • Philippa Vafadari - Creative Producer of ART:sync, founder and Artistic Director of award winning theatre company BandBazi

 

How to enter

  • Each entry must contain the following information otherwise it will not be considered:
        -  Full name
        -  Postal address
        -  Email address and/or telephone number
        -  Age category
  • If possible, all submissions should be typed in 12pt and double-spaced. If you are submitting a handwritten story, please ask someone to go through it before sending it in to make sure that it is readable.
  • Copyright of any story remains with the author, but Crossing The Teas has the unrestricted right to publish the winning stories in any medium and without monetary compensation.
  • No alterations can be made once the story has been submitted.
  • If you want your entry acknowledged, please provide an SAE marked ‘acknowledge’ or send your email with a read receipt request. No acknowledgement will be provided otherwise.

  • If you are submitting by email please make sure that your story is on an attachment not in the body of the email. Please email your story to Liza at info@crossingtheteas.com

  • Is it 750 words or less?
  • Is it marked under 18 or 18 and over?
